Bond Traffic School was created to give the California drivers a chance to correct the mistake that occurred on the highway. How do you use this option?

• The First step is to request the option to attend Traffic School from the Traffic Court that has jurisdiction over your citation.
• The second step required is to mail in the fine or hand deliver it to the Traffic Court that handles your case within the stated time frame on your Traffic Court documents.
• Step three is to wait for and review a Traffic School list sent from the Traffic Court. You can only attend one of the schools from this list.
• Step four is to decide which school to attend. You may attend any school on the list regardless of location or district because they are all governed by DMV. There is one restriction, you may only attend one traffic school course per 18 months. This will insure that there is not a misuse of the privilege.

Your insurance company will not be aware of the citation until you either forfeit the right to attend traffic school or fail to attend within the due date. If you don’t attend you will see an increase in the policy for the next three years (36 months). This is how it may occur:

• An insurance policy in Sacramento for a person with a medium size vehicle is: $1000 per year. The point stays on your record for 3 years (36 months).
• The insurance companies give you a discount for being a category A driver with 0 points on your record: -20% from an average policy ($1000 - $200 = $800).
• The insurance companies punish you for being a category B driver by adding 20% onto your policy calculated by the average policy ($1000 + $200 = $1200).
• This is a 40% increase in your insurance rate over the next 3 years ($1200 - $800 = $400 = 40%).
